Segment Four - Figure Drawing and Portfolio
American Council on Education College Credit Recommendation: 8 semester hours
Prerequisite: The student is required to complete Sections I, II and III before starting Section IV.
Figure Drawing and Portfolio is an advanced art segment. An analysis of the human anatomy sharpens the student’s ability in drawing nude and draped figures. Students will have drawing projects in which proportions, skeleton, muscles, action, expression, foreshortening and distortion are emphasized. Focus is given to the techniques of drawing and rendering heads, hands and feet. The segment investigates concepts and development of various folds and lighting in drawing and rendering clothing on the figure. An introduction is given to fashion illustration. The portfolio is the capstone project. It is designed to arm students with an understanding of techniques used to present artwork professionally in preparation of an art portfolio. An emphasis is given to preparation of compositions. Focus is given to a review of the entire art program that will culminate in preparation of the student’s portfolio. The segment is divided into five individual lessons, requiring the student to complete six pieces of art, a comprehensive objective examination and the capstone project requiring the student to show mastery of the concepts learned throughout the program in five art projects.
